Andrew Forrester

Graduate student of physics
University of California, Los Angeles

The Basics:

I am a fifth-year graduate student in the Physics Department of UCLA. I started studying here in the fall of 2005, after graduating from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) in the spring with bachelor's degrees in physics and mathematics.

Here's my résumé: [pdf].

Graduate Study:

As a graduate student, I have studied theoretical physics, in particular general relativity and quantum field theory. I have put those studies to the side for now, though, as I have found an interesting thesis-worthy project in theoretical condensed matter. I have served continuously as a teaching assistant during my studies. See my research and teaching pages for more information.

Previous Research:

Spectroscopy of Antihydrogen in a Laser Field via the Time-Dependent Schrödinger Equation [pdf] - This was my undergraduate senior thesis, which I wrote while with Dr. Chi Hu's research group at California State University, Long Beach.

Simulating Quench Signals in the LHC Superconducting Dipole Magnets [pdf] - This was my report for the 2004 CERN Summer Student Program. I also gave a presentation of my project in the Student sessions (2/6) of the Summer Student Lecture Programme 2004. Here are the files:

Conductivities in Bilayer Quantum Hall Systems [pdf] - This was my report for the 2003 Los Alamos Summer School (LASS) in Physics.
